Chi straightening irons makes it a priority to show a fine selection of hair
straightening equipment.
Thank you for visiting our site. Here you will be able to find the best matching straightening irons for you and
your hair. If you plan to buy a hair straightener there are a couple of important points to consider. Please read
through the following part carefully as we would like to help you find the best flat iron for you.
Professional or Consumer
If you pay more than $50 per salon visit consider buying a good professional straightening iron. It can "earn
back" its price and more in a couple years.
Plate
Always go for ceramic or tourmaline plates. The cheap coated aluminium plates let their coating off after a
couple of uses and your hair will get caugth even broken between the plates.
Size
Size depends on your hair's texture and length. Texture-wise three groups can be identified: one
having a very coarse, thick or curly hair, two having a normal hair and three fine or thin hair. Generally the
thicker the hair is the bigger plates your straightening iron should have.
If you happen to be in group one ( coarse, thick, curly hair ) you should use the following guides. For below
shoulder hair the plate size should be 1.5 to 3 inches. For medium hair length 1.5 to 2 inches. And if you feature
a short hair 1.25 inch is the good plate size for you.
For all those who have a long normal hair 1.25 to 2 inches is the ideal. For medium length 1 to 1.5 inches works
best. Finally for short normal hair 1 to 1.25 inches seems to be the perfect fit. The 1.25 inch plate size is a
good compromise and you can use it even if you grow or cut your hair short later.
If you have a fine or thin hair you have an easy choice: 1 to 1.5 inches.
Most popular sizes are 1-1/4" and 1-1/2 inch.
Temperature
You should carefully set the irons temperature based on your hair's texture.
The optimal temperature for the very coarse, thick or curly hair is: 380-410 oF
(190oC - 210oC Celsius). If you have a normal hair the temperature should be lowered to
360-380 oF (180oC - 190oC Celsius). And if you have either a bleached,
fragile, damaged or fine hair never set the irons temperature highter than 360oF (180oC
Celsius).
Hair Damage
Most important is setting the optimal temperature for your hair. Additionally using a good flat iron heat
protection spray before the styling session helps to prevent the damaging effect of hair straightening.
